In this Rugby World Cup legends section we wanted to pick out one player in each World Cup that really caught the attention of Rugby Fans around the World an in 1987 Rugby World Cup Michael Jones was that person as he was the complete player and he dictated how the game should be played and enjoyed for decades to come.
Jones had the pace of the very best wingers he was a fantastic ball player and he was also great in defence always anticipating the breakdown and making tackles better than any defender. On his debut he scored the very first try in the 1987 Rugby World Cup Finals, and his magnificent displays culminated in a performance in the final in which he again scored and was the bane of France in both attack and defence.
Jones would have won more than his final 55 tally where it not for a major injury that nearly caused him to have his leg amputated and also his religious beliefs which did not permit him to play on a Sunday.
Jones was born on 8th April 1965 and he made his debut at the age of 22 with his final game coming in 1998.
