Rugby World Cup 1995 - Winners South Africa
South Africa played hosts to the Rugby World Cup for the first time having just being readmitted to the Rugby fold and they managed to pull of a great success against the All Blacks in the final. This was a bit of an upset as it was expected that Jonah Lomu would continue where he left off in the semi finals were he scored four great tries against the English and almost single-handedly took New Zealand into the final. South Africa had a much trickier semi final encounter against France and only just managed to come out on top winning 19-15.
For those watching this excellent World Cup we will always remember the South African captain Francois Pienaar being handed the William Webb Ellis trophy by Nelson Mandela. This goes down as one of the great sporting moments of all time and one which will stay in the hearts of all South African rugby fans for ever.
